Murata Capacitor Summary

Murata Electronics is a world leader in developing, manufacturing, and supplying multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). Our line up includes capacitors ranging from 0.1pF through 100uF. Murata utilizes its core competence in materials research, fine powder, thin film processing, and manufacturing technologies to provide high reliability, leading edge products at very competitive terms. Murata also supports the advances in the electronics industry by offering better alternatives to tantalum, film, and aluminum electrolytic capacitors via our very high volumetric capacitance parts (high capacitance and miniaturization). We also offer a complete line of parts for very high frequency applications, parts for mid/high voltage applications, and complete solutions for specific market segments.

Murata's Technology supports the leading edge electronic equipment manufacturers by offering industry leading quality components, which we believe are based on quality materials. Murata has well-established technologies to precisely control ceramic and electrode materials that determine the property of electronic components. Murata's mid/high voltage MLCCs are engineered using advanced ceramics processing and base metal electrodes. Benefits of this technology allow MLCCs to offer capacitance and voltage ranges previously available only in electrolytic, film and tantalum capacitors. Additional benefits include leaded and surface mount devices, safety certified components, high withstanding voltages, and excellent high frequency characteristics. All products are available in base metal technology and as RoHS complaint.

GRM - The Murata GRM series is a complete line of ceramic chip capacitors in 6.3V, 10V, 16V, 25V, 50V, 100V ratings. These capacitors have temperature characteristics such as C0G, X5R, and X7R. GRM series is offered with a Nickel (Ni) barrier termination plated with matte Tin (Sn), highly resistant to migration and is RoHS compliant. Stringent dimensional tolerances allow highly reliable, high-speed automatic chip placement on PCBs. This product series is available in tape and reel packaging for automatic placement.

Hi-Cap - The Murata Hi-Cap, Ta replacement product lineup ranges from capacitance values of 1uF and larger. This line of high volumetric capacitance ceramic chip capacitors is available in 4V, 6.3V, 10V, 16V, 25V, and 50V. This product series (GRM) is offered with a Nickel (Ni) barrier termination plated with matte Tin (Sn), and is RoHS compliant. Stringent dimensional tolerances allow highly reliable, high-speed automatic chip placement on PCBs.

Why use ceramic chips over Ta and Al capacitors? Ceramic chips offer better reliability, electrical performance, no polarity, and allow design engineers to downsize designs with various package options. This line of high volumetric multilayer capacitance ceramic chip capacitors (MLCC) has excellent high frequency noise absorption performance compared to Ta and Al caps. For bypass/decoupling applications, MLCC is equivalent to 1/2 to 1/5 the capacitance value of a Ta capacitor because impedance (ESR) of MLCC is lower at higher frequencies (above 100kHz.) Consider Murata Hi-Cap as your Ta capacitor replacement.
